Four By Six By Four

A couple years ago, I created several small watercolor paintings featuring my digitally designed abstract patterns. These were each 4x6 or 5x7 in size, and I usually completed a pair or trio of them at a time in a similar color scheme, with the idea that they could be grouped together or "mixed and matched" on a wall for a pop of color. Unsigned in the front, they can be hung vertically or horizontally in any configuration.

Originally, I had them listed individually on my Etsy page, and each painting came with a white mat. (Frames were not included.) I sold a few of them this way, but not as many as I'd hoped. I thought they were great, easy decor options, and I wanted to give people the chance to select exactly how many and which colors they wanted - but ultimately I think listing them individually made the task of figuring out how to display them a little too daunting for the average consumer. It also probably didn't help that to buy all three of the green 5x7 paintings (for example), one had to find each of the three individual listings and add each to the cart. I wanted to think of a better way to show people how they could easily hang these cute little paintings in their home, and make a better customer experience for them.

I decided to remove all of those individual listings, group the small paintings with like or complementary color schemes, and purchase multi-frames (also called "collage frames") to repackage them. The frames are all basic black and the corresponding white mats have multiple openings of the same size cut out. I have eleven frames with spots for two 5x7 paintings, two frames with spots for three 5x7 paintings, two frames with spots for three 4x6 paintings, and two frames with spots for two 4x6 paintings. Each frame will be its own listing on Etsy - so now you can purchase three like 5x7 paintings (for example), already matted and framed, in a single transaction. And you can also hang them easily, with a single nail in your wall., transfiguring the frame horizontally or vertically based on available space or desired aesthetic! (Though, please note - if there is anyone out there who would prefer the old way of doing it, and would like to buy them individually instead of in pre-framed sets like this, please reach out to me. I can remove these paintings from their frames just as easily as I put them in!)

The next several blog posts will feature these new framed sets so you can see what they look like now. Today's post is all about the two sets of four 4x6 paintings that I created - Summer Lake and Alien Encounter.

Spring & Summer Landscape Photos

These photos were all taken in May-July in my front and side yards.

I planted a few dozen hybrid tulips in the fall, imagining our front yard bursting with color in the spring. They bloomed late and then didn't stick around long (I didn't spray enough deer repellent, and the deer that frequent our subdivision ate most of them), but I did manage to grab a couple great photos:

I also took pictures of the pretty blossoms on the crabapple tree in our front yard, as well as the red lilies and roses:

My hydrangea bushes (I have one very large one, and two small ones now) are also doing well (the large one especially):

The biggest front yard story of the spring/summer, however, was this little mama duck, who made a nest in our bushes, incubated 8 or 9 eggs, and then one day vanished - leaving one sad, unhatched egg behind.

Last fall, we also did a lot of work to our side yard landscaping, planting several hosta, ferns, and astilbe - all of which, I'm happy to say, came back and looked great this spring/summer, with little watering or attention given on our parts. I love the pop of color on the astilbe, especially:
