"30 Days" - Rose #1

There are six roses in the top row of my new 22"x30" colored pencil drawing on black paper. Here is the step-by-step process of how I drew the first rose, in the top left corner.

1. Light colored pencil to mark where the lightest parts of the rose would be:

2. Adding in more layers of reds and pinks, mixed with light peach:

3. Adding small details like spots of blue or yellow/brown, and drawing leaves and grass in the background:

For scale, here is the entire drawing, with only the first rose finished. By the end, there will be thirty roses.

I'll show some photographs of rose #2 tomorrow!
